The Whittecar
Rifle and Pistol Range was formed around 1974 and incorporated in
1976. Bill Whittecar was one of the founding members. Our current
lease runs out in 2025. The facility is located on Montana Fish,
Wildlife & Parks land. Our range is located in Ravalli County near
the city of Hamilton, Montana approximately 45 miles south of Missoula.
We are a public range serving the communities of the Bitterroot
Valley including Florence, Stevensville, Victor, Pinesdale, Corvallis,
Hamilton, Darby and Sula.
We
are open to the general public on Wednesday through Sunday 52 weeks
a year. We currently have six shooting ranges. The range is run
by a 10 person Board of Directors and staffed by our on-site Caretakers.
We conduct monthly Board meetings on the second Tuesday of every
month. These meetings are usually held at the Range itself. Our
meeting minutes record our monthly discussions and members are encouraged
to attend our meetings. We print an annual newsletter and maintain
a calendar of activities such as matches, classes and law enforcement
training. We are supported by membership fees, daily use fees and
by the generosity of several local sponsors.
